Elf on the Shelf

Often when I get an idea, I want it NOW.  Last year, I wanted to start the "Elf on a shelf" tradition with my kids.  I didn't want to order one and wait for it to get here, so I decided to see if I could make my own, and here's what I came up with.

I made him sew his own hat.
I used polymer clay for the head shape, and wire for the inside of the body.  I used red felt for the body, but would recommend using some more durable fabric (it takes a lot of abuse from all of us playing with it). I painted the face with acrylic paint, trying to capture that mischievous little look on his face.

Stay tuned to see all the fun we have with this little guy this year!

  1. This is one of my favorite things you have ever made. I was freaked out when I realized you actually had made it. Looks so store bought. Can't wait to see all your fun ideas with it! :)

  2. Me too, Sherri. I saw this last year and "freaked" out as well. I don't mean to look like Tausha's stalker but I admire all of her talents. Where does she find the time with a new baby? Amazing.

  3. Thank you both! I find time while I'm not cooking. Cooking is my weakness, I don't like it at all! :)
